CHARLOTTE -- The state budget and proposals that could
cost Charlotte millions in revenue was at issue Monday during a meeting
between state and local lawmakers as Mayor Pat McCrory works to get
answers from Raleigh.
"We had one representative that just said ‘No’ when asked
[about the state budget]," said McCrory. Six of the 15 state lawmakers
form Mecklenburg County attended the budget discussion with McCrory and
others on Monday; only four were there last month.
McCrory slams plan at health care rally

With signs that doubled as fans to keep cool, Charlotte
opponents of the proposed public health care plan gathered Tuesday night
as Mayor Pat McCrory denounced existing proposals.
“Being out here doesn't mean we're against reform,” he
said to the 200 or so protesters in uptown Charlotte at the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center Plaza. “We're for the right kind
of reform – there are viable solutions other than (the federal
government) taking over our health care,” including tort reform and

The Lessons of the
‘Stimulus' Bill
Very little of the money is going to
meaningful infrastructure projects.

With some members of Congress now considering a second
stimulus bill, my recommendation is that lawmakers pause, take a deep
breath, and learn from history about the consequences of good intentions
gone bad.
For example, after the tragic attacks of 9/11, Congress
and President George W. Bush answered the call to "do something" by
passing a hastily put together spending bill that sent tens of millions
of dollars to states and cities in the name of homeland security. (read more on WSJ online)
