ENVIRONMENT

Mayor Pat McCrory has worked with Members of Congress and two Presidents on various legislative efforts which have led to revitalization of areas throughout Charlotte. His actions have led to a renewed effort on strengthening neighborhoods and protecting the environment.

Mayor Pat McCrory is Chair of the U.S Conference of Mayors (USCM) Environment Committee

Adopted a Tree Ordinance that requires residential developers to save 10% of a property’s tree canopy

Adopted a sidewalk policy to enhance pedestrian mobility. Ordinance requires sidewalks in new subdivisions and created funding plan to install sidewalks in established neighborhoods that request sidewalks

Bike Lanes have been integrated into the City’s Transportation Plan for thoroughfare roads and other roads where possible

Initiated a billboard ordinance to reduce visual clutter

Charlotte’s drinking water meets 100% of regulatory requirements. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities perform nearly 325,000 water tests a year

In 1994, Charlotte implemented rollout garbage collection which saved $40 million in the past decade
